Our Work in Zambia

Zambia

In Zambia, 80:20 carries out educational projects on 4 key issues:

  • HIV and AIDS
  • Women’s Rights
  • Human Rights
  • Taking Action for Justice

Since setting up 3 years ago in Zambia, 80:20 has been directly involved in the following projects:

- Developing, drafting, publishing and disseminating Information, Education and Communications materials on Human Rights and HIV and AIDS in the 7 major working languages – these documents are now an integral part of the overall human rights and capacity building work of our partners Women for Change in their work alongside the Traditional Leaders.

- Facilitating local, rural-based training and capacity building on human rights and gender as well as HIV and AIDS. This work has been done as part of the WFC Human Rights Team and, to date, over 40 such workshops have been completed.

- Supporting the development, drafting and publishing of a human rights education handbook to document, framework and share the background, process, methodologies, activities and outcomes of the WFC human rights programme with Traditional Leaders.

- Designing and delivering a public education project on Stigma and HIV and AIDS with Zambian and Irish Youth in the form of a public mural plus support activities.

- Designing and supporting a civic education programme with our partners – the Zambia Civic Education Association focused on HIV and AIDS education for, and with, young people of high school age, their teachers and youth leaders; on Governance and Human Rights issues in Zambia and Ireland and on exploring the role of Action Projects in Civic Education.
